It is a major ingredient for making SSP and DAP fertilizers and has a wide variety of uses because of its high phosphorous content. Some of this mineral is processed to extract the elemental phosphorous, which serves as an important feed stock for the chemical industry. The most significant application of this mineral is in the fertilizers for the agricultural industry and besides, fertilizers and chemicals, the other areas where it is put in, include metallurgy, water treatment, fungicides, cosmetics, anti-corrosion food, animal feed supplements. It is an excellent natural source of phosphorous, calcium and many essential micro mineral. It contains over 10-30 percent total phosphate ( 3-8 percent available ) and 30-60 percent calcium (as CaO ). It has approximately one fifth the neutralizing power of lime. The general formula of rock phosphate is Ca10(PO4)6(X)2. Purity 20% 30% P2O5. It is mostly Brown and offwhite in colour.
